When someone nearby searches "pizza near me" or your restaurant's name, what they see first usually isn't your website — it's your Google Business Profile: the map listing with your hours, photos, reviews and an order button. It's free, it's one of the highest-impact things you can control, and most independents leave it half-finished. Here's how to fix that.

Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile: accurate name, address, phone and hours; the right categories; great photos; and — crucially — an order link that points to your own commission-free site, not just an app. Then keep it alive with reviews and posts. A complete, active profile is the cheapest local marketing there is.

Why it matters so much

Google's local results (the "map pack") sit above the normal links and capture a huge share of "near me" and branded searches — exactly the high-intent moments when someone's deciding where to eat right now. Your profile is often the customer's first impression and, increasingly, where they act: tap to call, get directions, or order. Get it right and you win business before they ever reach a website.

Complete every field

  • Name, address, phone, hours — accurate and consistent with your website. Keep hours updated for holidays.
  • Categories — pick the most accurate primary category and relevant secondaries; this shapes which searches you appear in.
  • Photos — real, appetising shots of food, the room and the front. Profiles with good photos get far more engagement.
  • Attributes — dietary options, outdoor seating, accessibility, takeaway/delivery.

Point the order button at your own site

This one's easy money. Google lets you set ordering links — make the primary one your own commission-free ordering page, not just a marketplace listing. Every order that comes through there keeps the commission you'd otherwise lose, from a customer Google sent you for free.

Keep it alive

  • Reviews. Ask happy customers, and reply to all of them — politely, especially the critical ones. Volume and recency both help.
  • Posts. Use Google Posts for specials, events and seasonal menus; they show on your profile.
  • Q&A. Seed and answer common questions so customers (and Google) get clear info.

It works with your wider local SEO

Your Google profile is the centrepiece, but it works best alongside a fast, accurate website and consistent listings elsewhere — see restaurant local SEO. VoiceMenu gives you the commission-free ordering page to link from your profile, so the traffic Google sends converts into direct orders. See what that's worth.
